Blasson and Axa create joint venture to buy Barcelona hotel for €180m – reports

Blasson Property Investments has joined forces with Axa to buy the Sofía hotel in Barcelona for €180 million, according to Spanish newspaper Expansión.

The hotel is currently owned by Brookfield, which bought the property as part of the acquisition of the Selenta chain in 2021 for €440 million.

Hyatt currently operates the hotel as part of the Unbound Collection and the new owners will have to decide whether to remain with the brand or move to another.

Spain, and in particular the Barcelona region has enjoyed considerable investor interest at the start of 2023 with a number of transactions taking place already.

SCPI PFO, a fund managed by Perial Asset Management recently bought Dolce Sitges Barcelona, a five-star hotel in Spain’s Catalonia region from global alternative investments manager Angelo Gordon for €63 million.

And Spanish REIT Atom Hoteles has also sold the Hotel Ibersol Antemare in Sitges for €10 million to an undisclosed buyer.
