Mandarin Oriental to develop high-end hotel and residences in Athens

Mandarin Oriental is set to develop a new high-end hotel and accompanying residences on the Athens’ shoreline.

Located within The Ellinikon – an €8 billion sustainably built urban regeneration project – Mandarin Oriental, Athens will comprise 123 rooms and suites, 17 branded residences including waterfront villas and apartments, dining options, event spaces and a spa.

It will be developed by BELT Riviera, a company established by TEMES and HELLINIKON, a subsidiary of Lamda Development.

Mandarin Oriental, Athens will be the second Mandarin Oriental property to launch in Greece, following the partnership with TEMES for the development of Mandarin Oriental, Costa Navarino which opens in summer 2023.

Why it matters

The establishment of a Mandarin Oriental hotel in Athens signals increased demand for - as well as growing investment interest in - luxury hospitality in not just Athens but Greece as a whole. Earlier this year, Mitsis Hotels said it would invest €36 million to restore, renovate and convert the Schliemann – Mela Mansion in Athens into a 5-star hotel. In 2027, Six Senses is set to open Six Senses Megalonisos, a luxury resort which will comprise 75 guest villas and 20 branded residences for sale.

I am confident, that with this location and our legendary service, Mandarin Oriental, Athens will be the leading luxury hospitality hub for both travellers and Athenian residents.”

Odisseas Athanasiou, CEO of Lamda Development added: “This new high-standard hotel complex will become another beautiful landmark and serve as an additional international pointof reference for this emblematic investment of The Ellinikon.”
